There's a very good chance that you are watching this video because you've tried to add your Gmail account to Outlook, and you've been scratching your head 'cause it just won't work. Well, I've created this video to specifically show you how to add Gmail to your Outlook profile, as it is quite tricky and it's a bit trickier, I think, than some other IMAP accounts as well such as Yahoo, Okay? But it's also one of the most common email providers as well, so if you're not adding an email account, sorry, a Gmail account, then I would just skip past this video and look at one that's just specific to adding an exchange account or something else, okay, this is really specific to Gmail. The first thing we've got to do is make sure we've changed the settings within our Gmail to allow the account to be added in the first place, okay, so what we're going to do is open up your Gmail and go to the settings button, okay, and then hit settings. They will load, and within the settings you've got these different labels at the very, very top, we want forwarding and POP/IMAP so click on those. And for this to work on Outlook we need to enable IMAP, okay, so where it says status IMAP is enabled, by default that normally says disabled so select enable IMAP in there, all right? So that's the first thing that you need to do. Now there are some other configuration instructions as well, you may or may not need to change these but do take a note of them anyway, okay, so if you click on those and just maybe take a screenshot of this data here, these details here, okay? Right, that's the first thing we have to do. The next thing we want to do is click on our profile, and we're going to manage our Google account so click on manage your Google Account. Okay, and it's the security settings that we need to change, 'cause we need two things as you saw in the previous video, okay, we need, let's get this right, we 2-step verification and we also need to add an app password, a specific app password. Now 2-step verification's pretty straightforward, you just click on the arrow, it's gonna ask you for your password and so on, then you'll need to input your phone number and that kind of stuff, and it'll all be set up, okay? I'm not gonna go through that 'cause I don't want to show you my phone number and everything else, 'cause that could get distracting. The next thing we need to set up, though, is something called app passwords, okay? So this is basically because you're gonna be connecting Gmail to Outlook, it's an additional layer of security that basically says, "I've definitely given permission for Gmail to be accessed via Outlook," okay, so we're gonna click on there. Again, you have to verify that it's you so type in your normal password, okay? Right, now I'm gonna ask it to generate an app password for me, okay? So, oops, first of all select the app, go to other, and I'm just gonna call it Outlook, okay, then I'm gonna hit generate (mouse clicks) and it will give you an app password. Don't get too excited I'm gonna get rid of this one and create a new one, okay, but you need this password. And what you can actually do at this stage is copy that, just do control C to copy that, you'll be able to use that later on All right, I'm just gonna pause a second while I do this again. Okay, so you've now got your newly created app password, so we go back, and what you should be able to see now is that you have 2-step verification on and app passwords with one password. Okay, so now we're good to go, we changed that setting before in Gmail and now we've got 2-step verification on and we've got our app password. So now all we need to do is open up Outlook. (mouse clicks) Okay, and now it may not take you straight here, if you've never used Outlook before you may get another screen, you may get something like this. Let me just show you, so you may just get this login box here, okay, in which case go to advanced options to set up your account manually, okay? It won't work, by the way, but type in all the details, set up the account manually, select connect, and select IMAP from the list, okay? So you can try that first time, it probably won't work, in which case you're gonna have to do something else, okay? So once you've tried that and it doesn't work, what you need to then do is go to file, and I'm cutting to the chase here, right, just to make it easier. And then go to account settings, (mouse clicks) and we're going to go to manage profiles, all right? Now select email accounts at the top, okay, and we're going to, in the email accounts or the account settings we're gonna select new. Okay, so type in the name of your email account. (keyboard keys clacks) Okay, type in the email address. (keyboard keys clacks) Oops. (keyboard keys clacks) And then paste the password that you copied from before, so it's the app password you're putting into here, then click on next. Okay, it's establishing network connection, it's searching for those settings and it's logged onto the server. Okay, so it says, "Your IMAP email account is successfully configured." Great stuff, click on finish now. I'm just gonna close that bit down. Okay, and then once you click on finish we'll get rid of all these other boxes and we hit this big arrow on the top left hand side, we should see that that new email address has been added, okay? Now if you click on there you might think, "Well, where's the emails," okay? You need to sync it first, so just hit this box at the top and that will sync it. It does take a few seconds, but that is now synced. Okay, so that's how you set up a Gmail Account on Outlook.
