You can use rules to do things like assign categories, or automatically move emails into certain folders, so you don't have to do it manually yourself. And typically it might be a really important emails from certain clients or maybe emails from your boss that you might wanna file separately. Alternatively, it could be things like moving all the files where you've been Cc'd rather than being included in the two line of an email as well, for instance. So that's what we're going do now, I'm gonna show you how to create a rule whereby if you are Cc'd on an email, it automatically goes into a different folder. So this is how we do it. I'm in my FE Gmail inbox, I'm gonna go to the Rules dropdown box in the home tab of the ribbon, okay? So click on Rules, and we're going to click on Create Rule. And we have options in here. Now, at the moment they're all unchecked, but we can kind of drill down. So this is kind of the high level options, but what I want to do is actually look in these advanced options here 'cause it's the conditions are, where my name is in the Cc box, okay? Now, there's lots of other things you could do in there as well, but I'm just gonna go where my name is in the Cc box. then I'm going to hit Next. So what do I want to do? Well, I want to move it into a specified folder in that case. So if you look in this step two element down here, you see how specified is blue, and it's got a hyperlink involved within it. That means I can click on here in order to select the folder I want to go into. So that folder doesn't exist yet, I'm gonna create a new folder in here. So I'm gonna click on Gmail, and I'm gonna create a folder called Rules test.
And hit Ok, there we go. So there it is, that's my new folder, then I'm gonna hit Ok. So what that should mean is now, so let's just have a quick read, it's apply this rule after the message arrives where my name is in the Cc box, and I want to move it to the Rules Test folder. Let's click on Next. Now, what we can do, we can run this rule on message is already in the inbox, and turn on the rule. So what that means is, that it will take all the Cc'd emails and plunk those into that folder straight away, as well as then capturing all emails where I'm Cc'd, going forward as well. So once we've done that, let's just click on Finish. And you could also give this posh name if you'd wanted to then. Anyhow, let's go and have a look, and let's see if that has been applied at all.
So here, there's my Rules Test folder. There you go, so one email's in there already and that's where I was Cc'd previously. Let's just test it, let's just send another email out from another account, and just test that it's working as well. Okay, so let's test this rule then, and I'm going to Cc myself at gmail.com. Okay, this is rule test email, and did it work, question mark? Okay, let's press Send. Then we'll wait a few seconds to see if it arrives in the right place. So we expect it to land in this Rules Test folder here. Because it's Gmail, it's not instantaneous. And there we go, the emails arrived directly into the Rules Test folder, so we can see that that worked absolutely fine. So you obviously got a lot more options within rules, okay? And you can manage the rules as well. But that will get you started, it's quite a complicated topic, there's a lot you can do there. But if you create a simple one like that first, then you can add the complexity if you want to.
