In this workout, we've already got a column chart where actual and target numbers are shown side by side. What I'd like to add is a column chart where the actual and target are overlapping. So I'll select the data, go to the insert ribbon, insert column, or bar charts. And the top left is a clustered column. And initially I've got pretty much exactly the same chart as behind.

I'd like my target and actual numbers to overlap, so I need to click on one of them. I'm going to choose on the purple, right click, and at the bottom, click on format data series.

Now mine has defaulted to this right hand button series options. If yours hasn't, just click on that. And at the moment it says series overlap negative 27%. This means that the two bars are separated and they've actually got, because of the minus 27, they've got a gap between them.

I'd like to change that to a positive 100%. So they're completely overlapping. Great, but because of their colors, I can't really see them. So I'd like to keep the purple selected and go to the paint tin fill in line. And for my fill, I'll change to no fill. So now I can see the bar behind, but I'd like to add a border instead. So I'll change the color to black and we'll have a dash line. Let's make the line 1.75 waiting and dash type. I'll take this third one down. That great. I just can't quite see it clearly because of the blue bars behind. So I'm now going to click on the blue and just change it to a lighter color. Again, I make sure I'm clicking on this paint in the fill in line and I changed the fill color to something a little bit lighter. Let's go the orange. Beautiful. And to all intents and purposes, this is now done. I can just do a few finishing touches. I'll put a chart, title, or click press equals monthly sales.

And the left hand axis, I click on that former axis, appears on the right hand side here. And I just want to click on access options and change the major units to 2,000. So those numbers aren't so bunched up. Fantastic. An actual and target overlapping chart.
