Describes how to produce a column chart comparing actual results vs. target results side by side.

In this workout, we're asked to create a monthly sales chart to show the sales numbers, both actual and target of each month. I'd like to do this using a column chart where the actual and the target numbers are side by side to make comparison easy. So to do this, I'll select the data, then I'll go up to the insert ribbon, and in the chart section I want the top left one, insert column or bar charts. And again, in the 2D columns, I want the clustered column, the top left. And immediately I get a graph that looks pretty good. It's pretty much finished. I do want to make a couple of changes though. We'll click into the chart title, press equals and click on monthly sales press press enter done. Secondly, I notice that the axis on the left hand side, the numbers are a bit bunched up and I'd like to separate them out a bit. So if I click into that up in the ribbon, I make sure I've got the chart design ribbon selected, and I go to add chart element. I don't actually want to add a chart element, but I want to go into the axis and then the axis, more axis options.
That appears on the right hand side here, annoyingly, it now changes to the bottom axis. I'm just going to click on the left hand axis again.
And for me it's defaulted to this axis options button here, but it may have gone to the fill and line. So just click on the access options. And in the access options here, we can see that the major units at the moment is 1,000. That's the number that's separating each of these numbers in the axis. So I'm going to change that major number to 2,000. That looks a bit better. The last thing I want to change, the colors, the blue and the purple. I'm finding that a little bit hard to see the difference in. If I printed that out, it might not be clear to people who are reading it. So I choose one of the colors. I'm going to click on the purple target numbers, and you might notice it now selects just the purple target bars. On the right hand side format data series has popped up. But I want to click on the fill and line button and then in the color, I'm going to change that to any color you want. I'm going to go with orange. Great. A lovely column chart.
