Chart Excel Insert Paste Special PictureTranscript
To follow along with the video, please make sure you have downloaded the file working with charts exercise file, importing a chart into PowerPoint from Excel as an image is very simple.
1. Select the chart from Excel and press control C to copy the chart.
2, go into your PowerPoint presentation and select the slide.
You want to add it too. 3.
Press control Alt V and a new panel will appear titled Paste special.
Select the option picture enhanced meta file for a high quality image. 4.
The chart will then be inserted into your slide as an image file.
The formatting applied to the chart in Excel will appear the same in PowerPoint, including colours and fonts.
You are unable to edit these details, however, you can edit the image like any other image, including cropping, resizing, border outline, adjustments and effects.
If you right click the image and select format picture, the main disadvantage to using this method is that any changes to the data in the underlying Excel spreadsheet won't be carried over into this image.
So you'd need to replace this chart image each time the data changes.
We are now going to go through the steps to import an image of your Excel chart into PowerPoint.
So first off, we're going to get the Excel file.
If you want to follow along with this exercise, make sure you've downloaded the Working With Charts exercise file.
So let's open that up.
Here is the chart that we're going to copy over into our presentation.
Select, select that, and then push control C to copy.
Then we're going to go back into our presentation, and here we're going to push control ALT V.
That brings up the paste special panel.
And so we're going to stick to the paste options, and as we're just importing it as an image, we'll select the picture enhanced meta file, and then we'll click Okay.
And there you go. You've got the image of your chart pasted into your presentation.
You can do some simple bits of formatting with this image, picture border, picture effects, styles, and things like that if you'd like.
The main sort of limitation to this method is that obviously you can't update any of the titles or the labels or anything like that.
And the second limitation is that any changes you make to the Excel file won't be carried over into this image.
Every time you make updates to that file, you'll need to replace this image with the most recent version.
