Another advantage to importing a chart from Excel is that the entire chart, as well as individual components can be formatted in various ways using the PowerPoint tools.
If you select the chart, a new tab will appear in the ribbon title chart design, and a panel to the right of the screen will also appear Titled format chart.
Area Chart design has four options Available.
Chart layouts allow you to add, remove, or change the elements of your chart, such as the title, legend, axis grid lines, data labels, data table, and more chart styles allow you to change the overall look and feel of your chart, such as the colour scheme, the fill type, the border, or the shadow.
Here we've added a shadow behind the chart to make it more dynamic. However, be careful with these options as the key with presenting your data is to ensure it is legible and clear in the data tool.
This is where you can edit your data or refresh the data if any changes have been made to the Excel file.
Change chart type gives you the option to review alternative chart types to help assess if the chart carried over from Excel is best suited.
As previously mentioned, another panel will appear when you click on your chart to the right of your screen.
A panel will appear called format chart area, which is useful when needing more accuracy in formatting the various layers or components within the chart by clicking on the blue arrow next to chart options.
This displays all the layers in the chart.
The options available will depend on the layer selected, where you can then format the fill in line properties, size and proportion of the components, or even add effects if necessary.
When applying formatting changes to a chart, always have the company style guides and client in mind.
You need to make sure that the chart aligns with other charts produced, but also that you aren't adding unnecessary details or effects that overcomplicate the charts and make it harder to read and digest.
The way you visualize your data can impact the way it's perceived and understood.
