Merge Shapes is a feature in PowerPoint that allows you to combine two or more shapes to create new shapes with different outlines and fillings.
You can use merge shapes to customize your objects and make them more visually appealing.
To use merge shapes, select the shapes you want to merge and go to the shape format tab.
Click on the merge shapes button and choose one of the options.
Union, Combine, fragment, intersect or subtract.
The result will depend on the order and position of the selected shapes as well as the option you choose.
Merge shapes are different from group shapes, which keeps the original shapes intact and lets you move or resize them as a unit.
It's also possible to add and remove points from shapes if you require something more specific, but this can also be helpful when needing more that the default quantity of points provided in a shape.
A use case for this might be creating an organizational structure, and you want connecting lines to not overlap, and so extra points are needed.
The process to do this is first by creating the shape, then right clicking on the shape and selecting edit points. From here, the cursor will change to a target.
When hovering over the shapes line, select the point where you want to add or remove a point.
Then right click again and select add point or delete point.
The same process can be applied if you want to delete points from a shape.
The only difference is you select delete segment instead of add point.
