Microsoft Word Styles WordTranscript
Now we've looked at basic formatting. We're going to take it up a notch and introduce you to styles, which are amazingly useful when applied properly. So when you add text to a document, it will have, so if I type in some default text here and we take a look at it, you can see it's got Calibri body font, it's size 11 it's automatic, which is black, and it's left aligned. Okay? So all those features if you like are captured within the default setting. And we call this the normal style. Now, assuming that and that obviously assumes you haven't changed any of the default settings yourself. Now this is fine for standard text but people often have different formatting for titles, quotations, and other things. In this and many of the videos you've looked at so far, you'll notice that the section headers all have different styles. So this heading here, if you like, it is Calibri Light. It's size 13 and it's this this kind of dark blue font as well. So all of that, we could make all those changes individually if we want to but it's far quicker if we use the Styles menu which is here in the middle of the ribbon. Now, if we expand this style's menu on the toolbar you'll see there's quite a lot of default styles in there. And for each one, there's an example of what it looks like, okay? So that's heading six. And also, the style name just beneath it as well, okay? Now all of these can be modified or we can create our own which we'll look at in another video. But for now, I want to focus on the heading styles and some of the really useful features of using these without changing them, okay? So the six of these at the moment and they are super useful when organizing a document. So the first thing I'm gonna do and the last thing I'm gonna do actually in this video is just complete these practice exercises below, okay? And we're gonna change the styles as instructed in the text, okay? So for instance, section heading we're gonna make this heading one. Now, there's no specific shortcuts for this but I will show you how to create your own in a later video. So let's start off here then we're gonna make this into heading one. Okay, so I'm just literally gonna click on heading one up here. There you go. Now if I just click a section, okay, so anywhere on this line here where it says make this heading two I can just simply click heading two and it will apply the style to everything in there. If on the other hand I select say, just one character and I wanted to make that heading two then it would only apply to the character. So don't select anything specific, just click the line you want to change. Okay, so that's said, that's heading two as well. And then paragraphs four and five we're going to make this into heading three. So it is as simple as that. Now, in the next video I'm gonna talk to you about why this is cool.
