Microsoft Word Styles WordTranscript
In our last video, we applied three different styles to our document. This version of the how-to document has been simplified so that it only includes the style section. So we've got rid of all the other stuff. Now, that's just to make our lives easier for this demonstration. Now, let's imagine that after reviewing our document, we want to change the order in which these different sections appear. Because we've used styles, this is actually super easy. Now, the first thing you're gonna do is press Control + F and when you press Control + F, this will open up this navigation pane to the left-hand side. Now, don't worry about the search function for now. We're just gonna click on headings. Now, you'll notice that all the headings appear and subsequent heading levels are indented more and more. Okay, so this assumes that heading one is the most important. Heading six is the least important. And think of the less important headings maybe as a subheading. So heading two is a subheading of heading one, for instance, or heading three is a subheading of heading two or even heading one for that matter. Now, you can collapse the subheadings within the master heading. So I could click on this little triangle here and that would get rid of everything 'cause heading one is, if you like, the absolute master or I could click on this little triangle here and that will collapse paragraphs four and five, which were heading three. And that's just so you can kind of tidy up the navigation pane to make your life easier when moving around within it. Now, what you can also do then, and this is super cool, you can reorder the document by dragging these headings around. So for instance, let's say I wanted to make paragraph one, move that to the end of the document. All I need to do is click on here, drag it down and you'll notice that it brings the heading and all the text associated with that heading down to the bottom of the document. Now, similarly, if I wanted to do that for say paragraphs two and three, because paragraphs four and five are kind of just below that level, then they're going to come along as well. So if I click on paragraphs two and three and drag those down back to the bottom, then now you've got paragraph one at the top again, paragraphs two and three next, then paragraphs four and five after that as well, okay? So that's how you can use styles to reorder your document nice and quickly.
