Arrows Flow Diagrams ShapesTranscript
You can connect shapes and objects using lines and connectors, and this is frequently done when showing flow diagrams or showing structures for instance. So to insert a line or a connector, you go to the Insert menu, Shapes, and Lines is the second row down. I'm gonna go with the line that's got an arrow on the end of it to start off with. So click on this one, and you'll notice now the mouse has changed to a plus, and as I move around as different parts of the screen, you'll see some small gray circles appear. Okay, now this basically means you can connect your lines to those circles, okay, to those blob. So if I go to the shape I wanna connect, which is this top blue square, and I select that bottom blob or node, I can click and drag that down to the next shape. And as I get closer, then, again, the four nodes that I can connect to will appear. So I'm gonna select the node on the top, and you'll notice when I let go that both the node have gone green; that means that the line is connected. And that's significant, because if I move the shape around now, okay, you'll see that the line that was drawn has also moving along with it. Okay, so it remains connected just undo that. Whereas if I copy, let me just duplicate this line, and I'll connect it to the top, but I will not quite connect it down here. Okay, so this time when I let go of the mouse, you'll see that I've still got the green highlighted node on the original shape at the top. But on the shape on the bottom right, it's a white node, and that means that it's not actually been connected. So when I start moving this shape around, the line doesn't move along with it 'cause it's not connected. Okay, I have to put it back where it came from, and then make sure I've actually connected it before it properly connects, and then will, therefore, move around as I adjust the shape. Okay, so that's the basics of line connectors. And if you look at the line, you think, well, it's not very clear, is it? You can, obviously, format the shape if you want to. So right click, as before, right click,
Your format shape will appear on the right-hand side and that will allow you to do things like change the width of the line.
Okay, so I've got up to two points there. You can make it a dotted line if you want to. Okay, so you have all those kinds of options. You can even change the arrow types as well. So if you want to give different kinds of arrows, okay, then you can do that also. Okay, so there are all your-- there are all the options available if you want to do some additional formatting on your lines.
