Fundamentals Interface VersionsTranscript
There have been many different versions of Excel and it's always updating. Here we see some old versions, 2007, 2010, 2013, and 2016, which has now been updated to an Office 365 subscription. We use the latest version, but no matter which version you use, there are always similarities. For instance, to make text bold, the button is the capital B, and that's always in a similar place. Similarly, if you wanted to left align a cell, again, we can see the alignment options inside the red box here, and they're always in a similar place. So we know that all the versions of Excel are quite similar. What do we mean by the Excel interface? Well, we start at the top and we see here the ribbon. This is called the home ribbon, and it gives us lots of choices for things to do with cells underneath, such as make the cells bold or left aligned. Underneath that is the formula bar. Now the formula bar gives us loads of room to look at maybe some large formulas in cells, rather than having to read them in the small cells underneath. The next question then is what do we mean by a cell? Here we've got cell A one. The one refers to the row and the A refers to the column. So if you were asked to go to cell Y 10, you could look on the top, find column Y, and then go down to row 10.
