BamSEC Filings Introduction TranscriptsTranscript
Welcome to BamSEC, the perfect tool for working with SEC filings and earnings transcripts. In this video, we will cover the fundamentals you need to know to get started with BamSEC. Once you are logged in the homepage enables you to quickly access the companies you've previously viewed or saved. Alternatively, begin your search for new companies. Simply input a company name or ticker to see a list of options and click through to the company page. You can also search for other SEC files, such as investment funds or individuals by name. The company page is where you will find all of the filings disclosed by a company. The defaults view is organized by category, which gives you an immediate overview of the latest filings by type. You can quickly switch views using the menu on the left to suit your preference. Below that menu, you can take advantage of additional company level features. The powerful document search allows you to find keywords and phrases throughout all the associated company documents. If you know the key terms this is the fastest way to jump directly to specific data within a filing. Alternatively, key exhibits extracts critical information disclosed by companies that is typically incorporated into other documents and therefore harder to find, including credit agreements, indentures, material contracts and more. Next to the company name, at the top, is the watch button. Click it to receive customizable email alerts for newly released documents and add those documents to the feed on your homepage. You can find out more about the watch list features in a later video. To view a filing simply click the highlighted link to instantly display the reports. New tools are accessible from the report view such as comparing filings and downloading tables. All the tables can be downloaded from the left menu into a spreadsheet. Otherwise, if you scroll to a specific table within a filing, you'll find three buttons on the top right. Each table has the following tools. The link button allows you to copy and send to a friend or colleague so they can instantly find the table. The similar tables button compares the table data to a previous reporting period. Lastly, the download option exports the table into an Excel spreadsheet and even retrieves time series data. If you want to save specific snippets, just click and drag across any text in a report to highlight it. Two options will pop up to either save it or link it. You can find out more about the highlighting and linking data in a later video. Thanks for watching this introduction to BamSEC.
