In this part of the interview, you'll be tested on your knowledge of financial markets, economies and of the deals relevant to the firm you're applying to, as well as deals currently playing out and written up in the press. Example questions in this category could be, pitch me a stock or a company. Talk to me about a recent transaction the bank has been involved in. Tell me about a recent article you've read in the financial press.
Before we hear our candidate answer this question, it's important to understand that a stock pitch is a piece that argues for or against investing in a company's stock, and which is supported by strong investment thesis and data.
So when preparing for this question, consider three things. First, always pick a stock that you are genuinely interested in. This will allow you to talk with conviction. Next, carefully structure your answer. And finally, prepare for the interviewer's tough questions on your thesis.
Having picked your stock, here's my advice on how to structure the answer. First, start with your recommendation. Then give the background to the stock or company and to the sector, including knowledge of products, services and key data, like sales and EBITDA. Then set out your investment thesis that supports your recommendation, including key factors that will drive the anticipated stock movements. You should also set out your valuation and methodology used. Lastly, lay out any anticipated risks to your assumptions.
So let's hear our candidate answer the question.
