Compress Pictures Crop Picture FormatTranscript
When it comes to pictures, you may decide that you only want to select a portion of the image. So let's say we want to just isolate the tiger's head from this image that we've got on the screen at the moment. So if I wanna create a duplicate here just so we get to compare the two afterwards, what I'm going to do is select the image on the right. And when I do that, you'll notice there's a new menu appeared at the top of the screen on the right-hand side. And that's the picture format menu, okay? So again, everyone's used the keyboard shortcuts. That will have its own letters, J + P, okay? So Alt + J + P will open up the picture format and then we can access the crop menu using the letter V as well. So if I press V, we want to crop, C for crop, simple crop and these black lines appear around the border, okay? Like black dotted line. And what this means is that we can select the part of the image that we actually want to keep. So I'm going to drag in from the left-hand side so that I get a narrow image and again, from the right, okay? And I'm gonna bring the bottom of the image up as well. So I'm just kind of trying to isolate the tiger's head pretty much. There we go. So I'm probably happy with that. If I click outside of the image now, you can see I can only see that cropped area. Now, the interesting thing here is that the rest of the image is actually still there because I click on the image again and then select Picture Format and then select Crop one more time. You can see now the hidden image is actually still there in the background. It doesn't stop us from being able to kind of click and drag and resize the image as it is, but again, if I click on here, go to Picture Format and select Crop, all the expanded hidden image sitting there behind. Great news if you want to keep resizing your images but it is actually taking up some memory. So ideally, we want to compress the picture to get rid of if you like that spare area. And to do that, again in the Picture Format menu, all we need to do is go across to the Compress Pictures option towards the left-hand side there.
and you've got a choice. You can apply just to this picture, or if you uncheck the box, it will compress all the pictures in the file. And we're going to also delete the cropped areas of the picture as well, okay? So when we click OK, it's now disappeared completely.
