Market participants are also able to enter market orders, which is an order to buy or sell a certain volume of shares, but without a price limit, meaning a market order will automatically match to the best available unmatched orders in the order book.

In this example, a market order to buy 7,000 shares would result in 2,500 shares matching at 107. A further 3000 shares matching at the next best price of 109 and the final 1,500 shares from the market order would match at a price of 110. They would remain 2,500 shares unmatched from the original sell order of 4,000 shares at 110 since they have yet to be matched. Market orders guarantee that shares will get traded or the trade will be executed, so long as there are sufficient unmatched orders available, but there is no certainty of the execution price.
